10 SONGS… (VOL. 10) BY CARTER WERE
“10 songs from my last Mediterranean summer”
Carter Were cooks, bakes, and is a self-described full-time mother as of late.
After finishing high school in New Zealand, Carter flew over the Tasman Sea to Australia where she worked in various hospitality positions — including a popular Sydney bakery — where she developed her love for food, and understood the importance of using quality ingredients.
Back in New Zealand, Carter opened a small bakery and shop in Auckland, with her organic seeded sourdough and sprouted bread being signature bakes. To the dismay of her regulars, she closed shop and traveled to Greece (where she spent most of her time on a farm), but would eventually settle down just outside Byron Bay with her partner, kids, dog, and the odd garden snake.
While her partner tends their permaculture garden, Carter keeps the family well fed with meals informed by whatever the land has on offer.
Luckily, her recipes made their way into ‘Carter’s Cookbook 2’, the follow up to her eponymously titled debut publication. With photographs taken by her twin sister Harry, both books feature a nicely documented collection of Carter’s delicious, no-fuss, colorful recipes that we follow on the daily!
Carter once said she’d “hope to have lots of children by the sea, some animals, and a garden to feed my family.”
That’s exactly where Carter was when we asked her to compile a playlist. However, it was the influence from the time spent in Greece that inevitably rubbed off on her iteration of 10 songs…
